Article #1
When it comes to healthy living, more and
more people are looking for a natural
approach to help their bodies maintain
optimum health. The solution is not
necessarily in the medical world of drugs
and surgery. Now days, an increasing number
of health conscious individuals are turning
to chiropractic care to prevent or
completely eliminate many of problems on
which traditional medicine thrives.
How does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic care doesn’t cure disease or
treat illness, but it does enable the human
body to heal itself. The chiropractor finds
and corrects subluxations or misalignments
of the vertebrae. These subluxations
interfere with the nerve function in the
body resulting in pain and other health
problems. Your chiropractor can minimize
interference with the nervous system and
help restore the body the way nature
intended it. Once that is done, the body’s
own healing powers are able to go to work.
Who needs chiropractic?
People with back pain and headaches are
usually the first to seek chiropractic care,
but those with anything ranging from
allergies to arthritis and
eczema to asthma
can benefit. Probably most surprising,
people who feel strong and healthy can
benefit greatly from chiropractic care as
well. How? By preventing the serious
problems on which the medical world of pills
and prescriptions thrives.
If I’m healthy, what can chiropractic do
for me?
Chiropractic is a natural, holistic approach
to preventing as well as eliminating
pain and discomfort.
-
For the athlete, it can mean better
performance, more effective training and
less chance of injury plus quicker, more
complete healing when injuries do occur.
-
For mothers to be, chiropractic will
facilitate easier pregnancy and
delivery, and the unborn child benefits
from less in-utero constraint.
-
Children prone to ear infections or
struggling with Attention Deficit
Disorder can be significantly helped by
chiropractic adjustments.
-
Older people who are at risk for a fall
will see their balance greatly improved
and find themselves less likely to
suffer hip fractures. Chiropractic
treatment can also enhance memory and
improve circulation.
-
Those who garden find chiropractic care
the ideal solution to the inevitable
aches and pains in a body that hasn’t
been quite so active in the preceding
winter months.
-
Finally, for anyone who wants to enhance
their brainpower, strengthen their
immune system and have more energy,
chiropractic a simple, natural way to
achieve those goals.
How often should I see a chiropractor?
Frequency of adjustments depends on the
individual. Some people find complete relief
from a particular ache or pain after just
one visit. For others, it may take more
adjustments. After any initial concerns are
met, most patients like to continue with
“routine maintenance” just to stay in the
best of health.
What can I expect from my first visit to Dr.
King?
You’ll be greeted by Debbie, our
receptionist/office manager. Her warmth and
concern for your well-being is the first
step on your journey to total wellness.
Dr. King will then take the time to get
acquainted with you and listen carefully to
your concerns. She will give a physical
examination, which may include x-rays, some
simple flexibility tests, and other
diagnostic procedures. Next, Dr. King will
perform a thorough spinal examination to
detect any structural abnormalities which
may be affecting or causing your condition.
At that point, she will be able to discuss a
treatment plan with you.
What happens in the treatment?
Once she determines the problem, Dr King can
begin care by way of adjustments to the spine. This involves
the specific manipulation of vertebrae,
which have abnormal movement patterns or
fail to function normally. Dr King will pay
special attention to that area of your
vertebrae where a spinal derangement or "subluxation"
has been detected. The adjustment is usually
given by hand by applying pressure to the
areas of the spine that are out of alignment
or that do not move properly within their
normal range of motion. Dr King has spent
the past 13 years using motion palpation
(the art of examining by movement or touch)
and other forms of spinal examining
procedures, so that she can provide expert
spinal adjustments.
Do adjustments hurt?
In the vast majority of cases, adjustments
don't hurt at all. Those who have
experienced chiropractic usually look
forward to the visit because they know how
much better they will feel afterward. Some
patients may experience minor discomfort
during the adjustment, which lasts only
seconds. In most cases however, Dr. King’s
extensive training and safe, gentle manner
make the chiropractic experience easy and
enjoyable.
Are you accepting new patients?
We welcome new patients and encourage you to
discover for yourself the benefits of a
holistic approach to better health for your
entire family.
